Unlocking Business Success Starts with YOU

Have you ever stopped to consider just how much your personal challenges mirror the obstacles you face in your business? As someone who’s navigated the treacherous waters of entrepreneurship, I’ve seen firsthand that the key to overcoming these challenges begins with self-awareness.

One defining moment in my career came when my company, Diversified Industrial Staffing, found itself $600,000 in debt. This crisis forced me to confront a hard truth: I was both the problem and the solution to my business's challenges. This realization was daunting, yet it marked a critical turning point.

To be clear, on paper, a business coach at $2,000 per month in 2006 was one of the most expensive line items on my monthly P&L. I knew I needed help and I couldn't solve my problems alone. Similar to a college education, I treated this cost as an investment, not as an expense. It was necessary for my personal growth and my company's survival. This decision wasn't easy, but it was necessary for both my personal growth and the company's survival. Under the guidance of my coach, I made substantial changes in management and strategy. These adjustments were not only transformative for me as a leader but also pivotal in turning around the company's fortunes.

Thanks to these changes and the hard work of our team, Diversified Industrial Staffing not only recovered from debt but also earned a spot on the Inc. 5000 list multiple times, recognized as one of America’s fastest-growing companies.

This journey taught me the profound impact that self-awareness and accountability have on leadership and business success. It underscored the importance of recognizing one's shortcomings and seeking help, transforming potential failure into remarkable success.

Self-Awareness: The First Step to Mastery

It’s not just about knowing your business—it’s about understanding yourself. Many of the entrepreneurs I coach come to me with external issues, but often, the root causes are much closer to home. Whether it’s difficulty managing a team, grappling with financial stress, or struggling to scale, the common denominator is frequently how they see and manage themselves.

You Are Your Business’s Greatest Asset—and Its Biggest Liability

In my journey, acknowledging my role in my company’s near-collapse was pivotal. I had to face the tough reality: I was the bottleneck hindering growth. This realization wasn’t easy, but it was necessary. Embracing this truth transformed how I led my business out of debt and into the Inc. 5000 list—not just once, but six times.

The Power of Reflection

Self-reflection is a powerful tool. It allows us to challenge our perceptions and biases, giving us the clarity to make better decisions. For me, understanding my fear of failure, addressing my imposter syndrome (aka my itty bitty shitty committee), and confronting my limitations changed how I approached both business and personal relationships.

Implementing Change

Change starts with a simple yet profound shift in perspective. Consider this: What part are you playing in the ongoing issues within your business? For me, and many of my clients, it comes down to these questions: Are you sick and tired of being sick and tired? Are you ready to look in the mirror and truly assess not just what you’re doing but how and why you’re doing it?

Driving Results Through Awareness

Self-awareness is more than just a buzzword; it’s a practice. It requires ongoing effort and honest evaluation. It’s about recognizing when you’re in your own way and finding the right strategies to move aside and let your business thrive. It's accepting that you have a part in every problem you have, that you cannot simply be a victim or a martyr.

Let’s embrace the journey of self-awareness together. Remember, the goal isn’t just to create a successful business but to lead a life that reflects our deepest values and aspirations.
